Brief Beauty

Thimphu Dzong

I walked out of the apartment this morning to be greeted by two inches of snow on the ground. The white scenery, however, was rather short-lived. As I type this, the snow has all but disappeared. Even the pitter patter of water dripping from the melting snow on rooftops have ceased, leaving behind puddles and muddy patches on the ground. It was nice to see the sun emerge and clear blue skies everywhere, but I was a little sad that my winter wonderland lasted only a day.

I managed to take some photos of the Thimphu Dzong before the snow disappeared. The small photoset of the snow we got here in Thimphu is here.

First Snow

The first snowfall of the winter arrived in Thimphu today. As with tradition, the day was declared a holiday and we all got off from work (technically we didn’t get the whole day off, the announcement came only about 2 hours we got in). In addition to covering much of Thimphu with a white blanket, the snow has brought out the monkey in the town’s male population. The boys (young and fully-grown specimens) are in full force on the streets, pelting passerbys (usually girls) with snowballs.

Glaring doesn’t help; once your back is turned, snowballs start whizzing by. Boys will be boys.

Boys will be boys

If you celebrate Christmas where you are this year, have a wonderful one.

I’ll be heading out of Thimphu from 26-27 December, so no new posts until after that. Ciao!
